Death is not a final Goodbye

Death is not a Final Goodbye. Image result for funeral
It is only a brief pause.

It is God’s prelude to eternity.
Without the hope of resurrection,
death would be a tragic ending.

The wages of sin is death. But God, who alone is immortal, will grant eternal life to His redeemed. Until that day death is an unconscious state for all people. When Christ, who is our life, appears, the resurrected righteous and the living righteous will be glorified and caught up to meet their Lord. The second resurrection, the resurrection of the unrighteous, will take place a thousand years later. (Job 19:25-27; Ps. 146:3, 4; Eccl. 9:5, 6, 10; Dan. 12:2, 13; Isa. 25:8; John 5:28, 29; 11:11-14; Rom. 6:23; 6:16; 1 Cor. 15:51-54; Col. 3:4; 1 Thess. 4:13-17; 1 Tim. 6:15; Rev. 20:1-10.)

Left out in the cold

And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. Luke 2:12

It was cold, bone chilling cold. The wind howled, and the snow fell heavily. It was Christmas Eve in 1952 in a remote village in Korea. Only a few people were on the streets completing last minute chores before Christmas. One lone woman in her early 20s slowly trudged down the street. Every step was laboured. It was difficult for her to make much headway at all against the driving wind. She was nine months pregnant, and the baby was due that very night. She had no family. The young woman had become pregnant by an American GI. Now she was alone, all alone, with no place to deliver the baby. She remembered a kind missionary across town. Suddenly thoughts raced through her mind. If only I can get to the missionary’s house on time, I can deliver my baby there.

Crossing the bridge to the other side of town, she recognised the telltale signs that the baby was about to be born. Stumbling down the hill to the riverbed, she found shelter under the bridge. There, in the freezing cold, this young Korean woman delivered a beautiful baby boy. Throughout the night she wrapped him in her own clothing to keep him warm.

Early Christmas morning as the missionary pastor was crossing the bridge, he heard the cries of the newborn baby. Quickly, he rushed to help. To his amazement, he found the mother frozen to death, but the baby boy, wrapped in her clothing, was doing quite well.

The missionary immediately reported the scene to the authorities. Sine the boy had no father, the pastor eventually adopted him. As the years passed, father and son become inseparable friends. Ten years later, on Christmas Eve in 1962, the father told his adopted son about the incredible sacrifice of his loving mother. The boy was deeply moved.

On Christmas morning, when Dad quietly entered the boy’s room to wake him up, he found the boy’s bed empty. He searched the house but couldn’t find him. As the boy’s father looked out the window, he saw footprints in the snow. He hastily followed them to the bridge where the boy had been born 10 years ago. There, to his absolute astonishment, the father saw the boy standing under the bridge - barefoot, stripped to the waist, shivering in the snow - crying. The father rushed to the son’s side and threw his arms around the boy. The boy looked up through the tear stained eyes and said, “Dad, i wanted to know what Mama felt like in cold that night long ago when she died for me”.

Jesus wanted to know what it’s like to be lonely, tired, rejected, sorrowful, hurt and bruised, so He plunged into this cold, cruel, calloused world. He took the full brunt of Satan’s viciousness. Jesus experienced a level of physical pain, emotional trauma, psychological distress, and spiritual agony that we can never imagine. The words of the prophet Isaiah ring with relevance, “Unto us a child was born”. All Jesus experienced was for us. He knows. He understands. He empathizes. He is concerned. He drew near. He shivered in the cold world with us.

Come to Him with all your heartache, tears, and sorrows. He knows what you are going through right now and is by your side to help.

Complaining and Murmuring

Related image

Christians are set as light bearers on the way to heaven. They are to reflect to the world the light shining upon them from Christ. Their life and character should be such that through them others will get a right conception of Christ and of His service.

If we do represent Christ, we shall make His service appear attractive, as it really is. Christians who gather up gloom and sadness to their souls, and murmur and complain, are giving to others a false representation of God and the Christian life. They give the impression that God is not pleased to have His children happy, and in this they bear false witness against our heavenly Father.

Satan is exultant when he can lead the children of God into unbelief and despondency. He delights to see us mistrusting God, doubting His willingness and power to save us. He loves to have us feel that the Lord will do us harm by His providences. It is the work of Satan to represent the Lord as lacking in compassion and pity. He misstates the truth in regard to Him. He fills the imagination with false ideas concerning God; and instead of dwelling upon the truth in regard to our heavenly Father, we too often fix our minds upon the misrepresentations of Satan and dishonor God by distrusting Him and murmuring against Him. Satan ever seeks to make the religious life one of gloom. He desires it to appear toilsome and difficult; and when the Christian presents in his own life this view of religion, he is, through his unbelief, seconding the falsehood of Satan.

Many, walking along the path of life, dwell upon their mistakes and failures and disappointments, and their hearts are filled with grief and discouragement. While I was in Europe, a sister who had been doing this, and who was in deep distress, wrote to me, asking for some word of encouragement. The night after I had read her letter I dreamed that I was in a garden, and one who seemed to be the owner of the garden was conducting me through its paths. I was gathering the flowers and enjoying their fragrance, when this sister, who had been walking by my side, called my attention to some unsightly briers that were impeding her way. There she was mourning and grieving. She was not walking in the pathway, following the guide, but was walking among the briers and thorns. “Oh,” she mourned, “is it not a pity that this beautiful garden is spoiled with thorns?” Then the guide said, “Let the thorns alone, for they will only wound you. Gather the roses, the lilies, and the pinks.”

Have there not been some bright spots in your experience? Have you not had some precious seasons when your heart throbbed with joy in response to the Spirit of God? When you look back into the chapters of your life experience do you not find some pleasant pages? Are not God’s promises, like the fragrant flowers, growing beside your path on every hand? Will you not let their beauty and sweetness fill your heart with joy?
The briers and thorns will only wound and grieve you; and if you gather only these things, and present them to others, are you not, besides slighting the goodness of God yourself, preventing those around you from walking in the path of life?

It is not wise to gather together all the unpleasant recollections of a past life,—its iniquities and disappointments,—to talk over them and mourn over them until we are overwhelmed with discouragement. A discouraged soul is filled with darkness, shutting out the light of God from his own soul and casting a shadow upon the pathway of others.

The Holy Spirit

Image result for the holy spirit

The Holy Spirit is the personal presence of Christ that energizes the soul. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, who brings life-giving power into our lives. He is the personal representative of our Lord, who brings vitality to our Christian experience. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, reveal’s God’s truth, and leads us into service.

Be satisfied with nothing less than the infilling of the Holy Spirit in your life. Ask God for it. Open your heart to receive it, and claim the gift by faith.

New Beginnings

We can either get stuck in the pain of the past or move on to new beginnings. New beginnings do not ignore or erase the past, but they take us beyond its devastating hurt. They lead us out of its destructive bondage. The past is a teacher, but it is not our master. Someone once said, “ You can never run forward looking backwards”.

Each morning God invites us to have a new beginning. “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is his faithfulness.” (Lam. 3:22,23). God’s compassion doesn’t fail, His mercies are new every morning! Why not discover this God of new beginnings in your life today; and let him move you on from the mistakes of your past. Let today be your day of new beginnings.

Kindness

Kindness looks for opportunities to do others good. It delights in making others happy. Kindness is not demanding; it is giving. Think of what the atmosphere in your home would be like if you were a little kinder. Think what the workplace would be like if you were a little kinder. Think what our schools, our churches, and our communities would be like if we were a little kinder.

Kindness produces kindness. The people around us often reflect back the attitudes  we project toward them. They are like mirrors imaging what we are.

A little girl once prayed, “Lord, help all the bad people to be good, and help all the good people to be kind”. Why not think of someone you can perform an act of kindness for today?

Peace is a Gift

Related image

Peace is not an attribute we strive for. It is not a state of mind we achieve through some meditative state. Peace is a gift God offers. We receive it by faith. When we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, the Spirit brings peace. Scripture calls the Holy Spirit our Comforter. He is the one who holds us up and supports us, encourages us, steadies us, and gives us peace. Peace is the state of calm assurance. Its like the ocean, although on top the waves tossing and turning and everything is in chaos, yet below at the bottom everything is still calm. It is the result of trust, of knowing that someone much greater than we is in control.

Peace is the opposite of worry. Worry projects the worst possible scenario on the screen of our minds. Peace trusts that God will work to accomplish His good in every situation. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Receiving Him, we receive peace. And when we are at peace with God, we cannot be made miserable.

The old hymn states it well:"Peace! peace! wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above; sweep over my spirit forever, I pray, in fathomless billows of love." Today open your heart to receive heaven's Dove of Peace. Accept His gift of peace. It is yours for the asking.
