A Famine is Coming | Sermon by Ryan Day

Sermon by Ryan Day produced by 3ABN. Have you put righteousness on pause? The Bible teaches that the spiritual condition of the church in the last days is not going to be good. God's people will be asleep, luke warm and complacent. Don't be taken by the worldly distractions the Devil has placed before you. Jesus spells out the steps in the beatitudes how we can be lifted to the character of God. Watch and listen as Pastor Ryan Day shares with us a message of righteousness by faith.

None of self and all of thee!

O the bitter shame and sorrow
That a time could ever be
When I let the Saviour’s pity
Plead in vain, and proudly answered:
All of self and none of thee!

Yet he found me; I beheld him
Bleeding on th’accursed tree,
Heard him pray: Forgive them, Father!
And my wistful heart said faintly:
Some of self and some of thee!

Day by day his tender mercy,
Healing, helping, full and free,
Sweet and strong and, ah! so patient,
Brought me lower, while I whispered:
Less of self and more of thee!

Higher than the highest Heaven,
Deeper than the deepest sea,
Lord, thy love at last has conquered;
Grant me now my spirit’s longing:
None of self and all of thee!

Why People Read God’s Word

People read the Bible for many different reasons. There are those who are not even Christians, but are just curious. Then there are casual readers–just looking for a devotional thought or maybe historical reference. There are those who read the Scriptures purely out of a sense of duty. Others seek out passages of Psalms for praise and worship. Some read because they are despondent, at the end of their rope and reach out for some kind of “hope.” There are those who out of sheer boredom, have picked up a Bible in an empty drawer of their hotel room and gave their heart to Jesus. God’s Holy Word is the most printed book in all the world, and has also caused the most controversy. It is the most powerful, insightful, inspiring book you could ever read. Even though there are numerous reasons “why” people are motivated to read it–the most important reason is for inspiration and instruction! It is an incredible source of insight and wisdom–for no one is a better teacher or counselor than God! His complete fail-proof plan for your journey through life is all detailed in His Word–including His full plan of salvation.

But before you even open your Bible to read–pray and ask for Holy Spirit guidance and understanding. Pick up your Bible today and you’ll soon find that the most valuable time of your day is the time you spend alone with God’s Word. Text: Proverbs 23:12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Matthew 4:4 ©
